What does this training cover?

This course is designed to provide general theory, practical knowledge, and application training for methods associated with the following Positive Material Identification (PMI) Techniques: XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), SPARK and LIBS-OES (Optical Emission Spectrometry).

Upon Completion of the Course, individuals will have an understanding of the theory behind the PMI Technologies, how to apply the theory, as well as learning proper and safe use and care of the equipment.

16 hours of classroom training following ASNT standard Outline for Qualification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel. SNT-TC-1A recommended practice.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Understanding PMI and its advantages, limitations.
  2. Introduction to SNT-TC-1A, what is says and how it applies to PMI.
  3. Be capable of setting up equipment per the applicable procedure or work instruction and performance of the PMI test.
  4. Be capable of performing system accuracy and/or performance tests and reporting PMI results.
  5. Be capable of performing calibration and validation of each PMI technology guided by written instructions and quality program.
  6. Understand PMI Test Methods: LIBS and SPARK-OES, XRF - how they work, and how to use them.
  7. Understanding of safety measures associated with PMI Test Equipment.
  8. Understand and demonstrate proper PMI Technique.

Quan Collins has a Mechanical Engineering background (B.S. Mechanical Engineering) and boasts ~15 years of experience in the PMI Arena.  His career in PMI has been primarily focused in the Petrochemical Industry where he has worked in Testing & Inspection, Sales, Consulting/Support, Service, and Training. 

He co-authored Metal Analysis Group’s PMI Qualification Training Series which is part of the company’s initiative to have PMI recognized as an SNT-TC-1A Discipline.  Quan is currently Service Director, serves as a Level III PMI and Instructor for Metal Analysis Group.
